Children’s Festival.

This year’s Barcelona Children’s Festival once again has lots of fun activities while also promoting diversity, solidarity and creativity under the slogan “A world of colours”.
The Festival, organised by the Fira de Barcelona, will be collaborating with Unicef and selling exclusive T-shirts promoting the UN Agency and the Festival.
The festival programme includes lots of sport, shows, games and competitions, as well as civic activities so children can have a good time during the Christmas holidays and learn about peace, protecting the environment and children’s rights.

“Wear a Cap” Day in the Barcelona Zoo.

This Saturday, 16th December, in the Barcelona Zoo will be holding the sixth of our “Put your cap on” days in support of children suffering from cancer.
Just like in previous years, there will be several events for children, workshops and games. Entry to the Zoo will be free to all children up 17 years old who wear the AFANOC Association’s cap for 2006 and adults will be recieve a 50% discount on the ticket price. This year, the AFANOC Association will use the money raised to build a residence. The cap can be bought on the 16th outside the Zoo ticket office.

100 years after the construction of Gaudi’s hallmark Casa Milà building (also called La Pedrea), the Fundació Caixa Catalunya has revamped the Espai Gaudà en La Pedrera’s loft. To provide a wide-ranging and suggestive vision of the architect and his work, combining technical rigour and educational features so as to enable experts and laypeople alike to understand the complexity and richness of Gaudi’s oeuvre.

In suppport of Human Rights Day (10 December), two days later, today 12 December, Amnesty International has organised a special concert at the BTM – Barcelona Teatre Musical.
Cambao, Fundació Tony Manero, Monica Green, Antonio Carmona, Rafael Amargo, LluÃs Llach, Ojos de Brujo, Sabor de Grà cia, Antonio Orozco, La Troba Kung Fú, Patriarcas de la Rumba and Gertrudis are those who will be on stage at the concert.
The show includes an interview with the Human Rights Defender in Colombia, Yasmin Gutiérrez Pabón.

During December break (6-10), known as the “Pont de la Constitució“, the 6th and 8th, shops and department stores in the city’s main commercial areas will be open all day. Both days are included in the eight Sundays or bank holidays when Catalan retail outlets are allowed to open. Many people are expected to do their Christmas shopping then.

VII Festival of the Millennium

From 13 December 2006 to 29 January 2007, the eight Millennium Festival gets under way with a varied calendar of events which have a broad appeal for audiences of all ages. This year’s festival showcases different musical genres, and brings together 25 performers who enjoy great prestige in Spain and abroad.
Performers such as Carlos Núñez, Tap Dogs, Salvatore Adamo, Georges Moustaki, Ute Lemper, Gilberto Gil, Jaume Aragall and Lucie Silvas will perfom at different venues around the city.
