Sant Joan in Barcelona, a magical Night!
In Catalonia, the first day of summer coincides with the Festival of Sant Joan. La Revetlla of Sant Joan, also known as la Nit de les Bruixes (Night of Witches) or la Nit del Foc (Night of Fire) is a popular and magical celebration that evokes ancient festivals that honored the sun.
During the course of the Nit del Foc, we celebrate parties and participate in festivals around a bonfire to commemorate the arrival of summer. The festival fills the night with light, color and sound, thanks to fireworks and firecrackers that people launch incessantly into the magical and mysterious sky. La coca de Sant Joan, a traditional Catalan pastry, can be found on every table.
About the Nit de Bruixes it is said that on the Night of Sant Joan, witches and druids strengthen and develop their magical and extraordinary powers. Then, the witches distribute their elixirs and love potions.
Don’t miss this magical night!

Montjuïc opens a new cable car system
May 16, 2007 by prova
The Castle, the highest point on the mountain, can now be reached in 15 minutes.
A fifteen minute ride in which it is almost impossible to keep your mouth closed, with the superb views it offers of Barcelona. That is the new Montjuïc cable car system, which will once again be open to the public, from 16 May.
You can board a car at three stations: Parc de Montjuïc, the Mirador and the Castle, though we recommend you start at the lowest point, Parc de Montjuïc.You can get there easily by taking the funicular railway, which stops at the same stop where you get the cable car.
The new cable car is not at all like the old one. It is all completely new, with greater capacity and accessibility, as well being better adapted to the local environment. For example, two cars have safety belts for wheelchairs.
Another new feature is that the spacious cars are totally enclosed in glass and offer what are surely the best panoramic views of the city.
Once seated in the car, and hardly having to turn your head, just by moving your eyes, you can see parts of Baix Llobregat in the distance, the landmark buildings of Avinguda Diagonal and Plaça d’Espanya.
You can also admire Plaça Catalunya and the building of a well-known shopping centre, the Cathedral, Sagrada Familia, the cruise ships in the port, Vila Olimpica, AGBAR Tower and the area round the Forum.
The journey is about 750 metres and the cars save a climb of 84.5 metres between the Parc de Montjuïc and Castle stations.

1898 Hotel, a fabulous Hotel!

“Just returned from a 2 night stay at this fabulous hotel which my friend and I used as a base for our ‘girls break’ – basically shopping without him indoors keeping an eye on the credit card useage!!! The room was really comfortable with everything we needed for our stay but best of all was the rooftop pool and terrace. We chilled out as soon as we arrived – lounging on the wonderful day beds, sipping an ice cold glass of wine and just drinking in the amazing views of my favourite city. Whilst really luxurious the staff at this hotel make you feel welcome and comfortable as soon as you arrive and I’ll be returning again (when I’d love the suite that we could see from our room with its own terrace, sun-loungers and jacuzzi – sheer bliss!!)”
