Loved the Hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Soho for three nights in June of 2008. We had previously stayed at the Hotel Jazz which is also a NN hotel. We preferred this one because of the staff and the friendly feel.Â

The hotel has obviously benefited from a professional interior designer as looks great. The staff knew of the local restaurants and directed us to one which was obviously not a tourist trap, Taller 76 was its name I think.Â

The rooftop pool was very relaxing but not one in which you can swim laps. I would ask for a room that does not overlook the Gran Via as it is noisy for most of the day and night.

We went to the hotel by taxi but you could get the blue bus from the airport. Not all taxi drivers know of the hotel so it is a good idea to remember that it is on the corner of Gran Via and Villarroel. It is very close to the metro and you can walk to the Plaza de Catalunya and the Ramblas.  Â

As I said, the staff were very friendly. When we came back to pick up our cases, they even waved goodbye to us. That is the first time in many years of staying at hotels that I have ever seen this.

Stay here, you won’t be disappionted.

Relaxing break in the Hotel 1898

Just a short break here unfortunately – 3 nights wasn’t quite enough. Definitely the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Barcelona, and what a brilliant location. It’s right in the heart of the old town, and close to the Metro, and Renfe & FGC at Placa de Catalunya if you want to explore further afield.

Enjoyed a bit of sunbathing on the rooftop terrace which was very well appointed with lots of comfy lounging areas. To my regret I never got down to the spa, but there’s always a next time!

We had breakfast just on the first morning – a little overpriced maybe at 20 Euros, but there was quite a good spread of juices, breads, fruit and pastries and, bizarrely, chocolate cake!

We just had a basic room which was extremely comfortable, very clean and unusually for Europe, had a kettle and tea/coffee which was very welcome (even if the maid forgot to leave milk one day!) The bathroom was lovely, all in green marble, with a good shower. And it was all lovely and clean and shiny.

I’d really have to be looking very hard to find any complaints, and all said I had a brilliant time and can’t wait to go back again.

Hotel 1898 – Lovely but expensive.

We recently stayed in this wonderful hotel with it’s mix of old and contemporary features, it’s beautiful Spa and Roof Terrace and it’s great location and loved every minute.Â

The only thing that let it down was that we couldn’t spend any time eating or drinking there because of the ridiculous costs – 12.5 Euros for a Gin and Tonic is outrageous.

I think that any hotel of this quality should realise that it would not only be more accomodating, but would also, ultimately be more profitable, if they kept their food and drink prices within reach of their clientel and on a par with what they would pay 50 metres down the road.

Fabulous Hotel in a Great Location

We stayed at Hotel Jazz for 2 nights whilst on a weekend trip. The hotel was perfectly located close to the Ramblas and shopping areas. It is in close proximity to a Metro station so you can get to it from the airport without having to pay for the expense of a taxi.Â

The hotel its self is slick and modern. The rooms are beautifully designed and there is the added bonus of a roof terrace with outdoor pool.Â

I would certainly recommend Hotel Jazz to anyone looking for a hotel with style in the best location.

Excellent Hotel – U232 Hotel.

“We’ve stayed at the U232 Hotel for a week and we were impressed with this hotel. The hotel is super modern with 5 star room facilities.

Most importantly wifi was for free and in the lobby there were 2 computers linked with internet and printer which could be used for free too. Hotel was cleaned all the time.Â

The only negative points were that there was no gym, stations on plasma tv were all in spanish and location is not so central in barcelona (you need to catch 2 tubes to go to ramblas – 30 mins).

Overall I do suggest staying at this marvellous venue.”

Collserola Tower and the Look Out.

The Tower

The Collserola Tower is the telecommunications tower built on the Collserola mountain range, on the Vilana hill, for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

It was designed by the English architect Norman Foster with the collaboration of the company Ove Arup & Partners, after their project had won a restricted competition organised by the Barcelona City Council in 1988.

The bold structural conception required a very singular construction, based on building different ceilings above the ground, raising them up through the central cement shaft, which was previously built to its height of more than 70 metres above the ground. Its 288 metres make it the highest construction in the city, it was put into operation in the spring of 1992.

The Collserola Tower is the telecommunications junction in Catalonia; 100% of television broadcasts and 95% of the radio stations that we hear in Barcelona and its metropolitan area are emitted through the tower. It is also the linking point for the whole Catalan network.

The Lookout Point

On the tenth of the tower’s thirteen floors, there is an observation point open to the public from where a very different view of the city and its surrounding area can be seen. From the Lookout Point, we can enjoy a view of the city from the height of 560 m, and the Pyrennees can be seen on a clear day.

Visits to the Lookout Point

You can reach the Lookout Point by taking the FGC (the Autonomous Government of Catalonia trains) up to the foot of the Funicular, then the Funicular to the Vallvidrera Superior Station and the 211 bus that runs every half-hour.
