The Liberty of the Seas is the longest cruiser to dock in Barcelona and the second biggest in the world.
339 metres long and designed to carry over 4300 passengers and 1400 crew members, The Liberty of the Seas is the second largest in the world and the biggest cruiser to have docked in Barcelona. It made its first call in the city last 16 April.
The three largest cruisers operating in the Mediterranean will be using Barcelona as a home port.
In addition, top American shipping lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have opted for Barcelona, where they will be operating several routes.
Cruise passengers come from a range of backgrounds: 18% are British, 17% are from the United States, 17% are Spanish – the group that has grown the most – 14% are Italian and 9% are German.
900 tourist vessels will be calling at the port over the course of 2011, bringing with them a total of 2.5 million passengers. In fact, Barcelona is now the leading cruise port in Europe and the Mediterranean and the fourth largest docking port in the world.
