The African-Catalan festival known as the Barnàfrika is back another year in Barcelona to set up shop in the Moll de la Fusta wharf with more than fifteen music-group, workshop and dance performances over three days.
Taking place at the same time as Africa Day, which is being held on 25 May, the festival will be bringing to this iconic site traditional-fusion music groups -the best revelation artist from the Cabo Verde Music Awards, Xumo, Kadi Kosobe, Bendula, and others, with hip-hop and African rap like Black Baudelaire and the singer-songwriter Kodjo Senyo.
Besides the music, there will also be African food tasting and spaces for learning how to play the djembe, dance capoeira and listen to tales from around the world. What’s more, local African musicians will be joining forces with the group Zimbabwe Club Shanga in a Music-Crossroads International initiative to encourage professional exchanges between artists, after which there will also be a jam-session.
The Moll de la Fusta wharf festival is merely the conclusion of a week packed with activities revolving around the African continent, its people, its traditions and its more topical events.
