We stayed four nights at Hotel Universal Barcelona.
The hotel is a very nice hotel to stay at and I could really recommed this place!
Nice and clean rooms, wonderful roof terrace with pool and sun beds.
And the location is also good. About 7 min to walk to Las Ramblas and close to the harbour.
Right next to a metro stop as well, which is very convenient.
The hotell staff was very (!)friendly and helpful! Best service ever!

Hotel Barcelona Universal: In praise of your staff

Dear Roberto:
My fiance and I stayed at your hotel the week of 12 July; between the two of us we have stayed in many hotels around the world over the years. We expressed our thanks to several members of your staff during our week-long stay, but Taru and I wanted to tell you personally how much we enjoyed our stay and how pleased we were with the attentiveness of your staff. To a person they were polite, helpful and responsive, and met any request quickly and thoroughly. Because we stayed at your establishment more than a few days, we encountered many members of your team, so we know this wasn’t a matter of one or two “stars” but indicative of the culture at the Hotel Barcelona Universal.
We have already recommended your hotel to some of our friends and will certainly continue to do so, and we will be happy to share our recommendation on travel sites. Please extend our thanks to your staff members, and congratulations on providing your guests with such a professional and obviously well-managed team. We look forward to a return stay — Room 906 was the height of comfort — as this was just our first visit to Barcelona. Because we became engaged our last evening there, I’m sure we’ll be back to relive (already) many happy memories.
With best regards,
Rob Kinslow, experience written in July 2010.

FIFA Wolrd Cup 2010 Groups

Southafrica 2010 World Cup
The FIFA World Cup, also called the Football World Cup or the Soccer World Cup, is the most widely viewed sporting event in the world. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not contested because of World War II.
Seven nations have won the title. Brazil have won the World Cup a record five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. Italy, the current champions, have won four titles, and Germany are next with three titles. The other former champions are Uruguay, winners of the inaugural tournament, and Argentina, with two titles each, and England and France, with one title each.

Consigliatissimo!

We stayed 3 nights at Universal last week wth 8 friends came from California. The hotel is excellent in service and cleanliness and good breakfast food. Just walk less 10 min to the Ramblas. We enjoy the stay at this hotel. The only thing to remind you to bring your own face towel to wash face since the hotel does not provide it.

(Hotel Barcelona Universal wants to mention that towels are provided always, not understanding what guest might refer as “face towel”)

Hotel Barcelona Universal & Hotel Soho helped us during the ash cloud

We were delayed in Barcelona for 6 extra days than we had originally planned and want to say a big thank you to the staff at the Hotel Barcelona Universal - they were wonderful - and helped us to find alternative accomodation at the Hotel Soho for four days and then welcomed us back for the final two days. They made the ordeal a lot less stressful than it might have been had we not had such good accomodation.
Please pass on our thanks to the reception staff at the Hotel Barcelona Universal, they were brilliant.
We loved the hotel and its facilities - the rooms were excellent with everything we could possibly need and the restarant staff too were first class.

The eruption of Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland on 14 April 2010 caused extensive air travel disruption. In response to fears that ash ejected by the volcano would damage aircraft engines, the controlled airspace of many countries was closed in what became the largest air traffic shut-down since World War II. This action caused millions of passengers to be stranded not only in Europe, but across the world.

Consequences of the Volcano ash

My wife myself and 3 teenage children came here for 4 nights starting 12 april 2010 and were due to fly home on 16th April - then the Volcano ash arrived on 11th April! We tried to get overland transport to Paris but earliest we could get out of Barcelona was 20th. The Manager and staff at this hotel cpuld not have been more helpful to us in our situation. The accomodation is excellent and location is also very central with metro just outside front door. if we were to come back to Barcelona we would definitely stay here again.

We spent four nights at the universal just after easter 2010 and must say we had a great time. In some way this was due to getting a room upgrade to one of the three suites, lucky or what eh!
Everything else about the hotel was good, particularly the very helpful desk staff and doormen. The hotel even replaced our broken TV at very short notice - in time for us to watch the Real Madrid v Barca footie match!
The hotel’s position is good too, within walking distance from La Ramblas and the gothic qtr. From the airport it was easy to get the Aerobus to Pl Espana and walk down C. Parallel. We survived with hand luggage but perhaps the walk would be too much if you had big cases.

Excellent stay in Barcelona

We stayed in Hotel Barcelona Universal for three nights on our wonderful visit to Barcelona in the beginning of March 2010.
Every day we very much enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet, the quick access to the city via the metro just outside the door or the short stroll to the Rambla, and when we came home in the evening from a long day of sightseeing we enjoyed returning to our nice and clean room.
The service was great. The breakfast left nothing else to wish for, the rooftop terrace was a great place for enjoying the last sunshine of the day or the amazing view of Barcelona.
I have already started recommending this hotel to other people going to Barcelona.
