Great location and nice staff!

We stayed at Hotel Barcelona Universal for 3 nights. It is a very nice hotel and very well located. Metro just in front of the main entrance. Staff very helpful and some of them speak German!

Excellent stay in Barcelona

We stayed in Hotel Barcelona Universal for three nights on our wonderful visit to Barcelona in the beginning of March 2010.

Every day we very much enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet, the quick access to the city via the metro just outside the door or the short stroll to the Rambla, and when we came home in the evening from a long day of sightseeing we enjoyed returning to our nice and clean room.

The service was great. The breakfast left nothing else to wish for, the rooftop terrace was a great place for enjoying the last sunshine of the day or the amazing view of Barcelona.

I have already started recommending this hotel to other people going to Barcelona.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

Innerhalb von drei Monaten war ich bereits das zweite Mal bei Ihnen zu Gast und es wird sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal sein. Der Aufenthalt war wie auch beim ersten Besuch sehr angenehm und meine Reisebegleitung und ich haben uns in Ihrem Hause sehr wohl gefühlt.

Ich freue mich bereits auf den nächsten Besuch in Barcelona und werde wieder gerne in Ihrem Hause als Gast sein. Zwischenzeitlich werden sicherlich ein paar meiner Freunde/Freundinnen Ihre Gäste sein, da ich Ihr Hotel als hervorragend weiterempfohlen habe.

Notre séjour dans votre hotel Barcelona Universal s’est très bien passé et a été vraiment très agréable. Chambre bien agencée,literie très confortable, ménage/propreté impeccable, et grande penderie très appréciable. l’ensemble du personnel est très attentioné, souriant, disponible (petit déjeuner, accueil, consignes, portier…) avec une mention spéciale/bonus pour le garçon de l’accueil qui parle très bien français -je n’ai pas retenu son nom-

Jean Bouin Race

The Jean Bouin Race was started in Barcelona in 1920 by a group of journalists and sports promoters who were athletics enthusiasts, namely Josep Anton Trabal, Lluís Meléndez and Rossend Calvet, who named the event after the legendary French athlete, Jean Bouin, who was the runner-up in the Stockholm Olympics of 1912, holder of various world records between 1911 and 1913 and killed in action during the First World War.

Since then, this classic Catalan and Spanish athletics event, has never stopped inspiring local athletes as well as runners from around the world. The only time it was not held was during the Spanish Civil War, between 1937 and 1939, and, owing to specific problems at the time, between 1955 and 1967.

The event is unique in what it offers, as it is the only one to include a great variety of races and which has been adopting further categories year after year

In all, the Jean Bouin is made up of 13 races of various categories and distances - including one for people with disabilities in wheelchairs and another for people who have had organ transplants. The best known is the Open Race, open to anyone, Federation runner or not.

It will be held on 29 November 2009. Online entries can be made until 12 midnight on 25 November, though the period could close before should the maximum number of 5,000 participants set by the organisers be reached.

The Open Race will go through Paral·lel avenue and Gran Via, making our Hotel Barcelona Universal, Hotel Granvia and Hotel Soho Barcelona balconies and windows the perfect places to see runners from.

We had an amazing time, helped by the receptionist upgrading us to a suite, this was very nice of him
All the staff were very friendly and always willing to help with directions
The hotel was spotlessly clean and right outside a metro station so getting around was so easy
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel

Hotel Barcelona Universal review

Had five days at the Barcelona Universal in early July 2009.  On arrival we asked for a quiet room and they obliged.  The staff were very friendly.  The room was clean and spacious.  The hotel was central for the Ramblas and harbour area and was very close to the Metro. We would definately use it again.  There were plenty of cafes across the road for breakfast.  Try the Dino pan.  For evening meals try the Bella La Napoli on Margarit and La Bodegueta on Carre De Blai very close by in Poble Sec.

Very content with Hotel Barcelona Universal

I was very content with your hotel and I really enjoyed my stay.
Room and bathroom was very clean and big enough, my room was on an upper floor and quiet and the breakfast buffet was very good.

Probably next spring I will come back to Barcelona - therefore I will choose Hotel Barcelona Universal again.

I love Barcelona - my favourite city in the world!

Lovely lovely lovely staff at Universal

Stayed in Universal for 5 days/4 nights in June 09.  Lovely lovely lovely staff, very friendly and helpful and attentive.  Rooms were nice, although the beds a little hard for my personal liking.  Didn’t eat here, but the roof & rooftop pool are a welcome addition, and really nicely laid out.  Facilities seem great, and the general standard of upkeep and decor throughout was lovely.  We had some problems one night with noisy neighbours, but this wasn’t the fault of the hotel.  Overall I recommend it.
