Southafrica 2010 World Cup
The FIFA World Cup, also called the Football World Cup or the Soccer World Cup, is the most widely viewed sporting event in the world. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not contested because of World War II.
Seven nations have won the title. Brazil have won the World Cup a record five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. Italy, the current champions, have won four titles, and Germany are next with three titles. The other former champions are Uruguay, winners of the inaugural tournament, and Argentina, with two titles each, and England and France, with one title each.

Great service at Hotel Granvia Barcelona

Just wanted to thank for the great service during our recent stay at your Hotel Granvia in Barcelona.
We were just finishing up a Rick Steve’s Tour and wanted to spend a few days revisiting Barcelona on our own. When we arrived, receptionist couldn’t find our reservation but he quickly found us rooms and offered to give us complimentary breakfast the next day.
The hotel itself was a grand old building with a beautiful Salon and a lovely patio. We loved the location which put us so close to Placa de Catalunya, buslines and the metro. The breakfast was an excellent start to the day and everyone was so helpful answering our questions and making suggestions.
We look forward to returning to Barcelona again and will recommend the hotel to our friends.
Muchas Gracias.

75th Anniversary - Hotel Granvia
Selecting the Hotel Granvia from the hundreds I researched on the internet was a stroke of luck, as we both were celebrating our 75th anniversaries, and we have both aged quite well.
It is a truly elegant hotel in the most advantageous position in the true “heart” of the city. You made my stay easy and extremely comfortable, great breakfast, and a great view from my window.
I highly recommend it to anyone coming to Barcelona for a first visit…or a 75th…thank you

Hotel Granvia first opened its doors in 1935, offering luxurious accommodation in a refurbished 19th century palace. Its original owner, Doña Dorotea de Chopitea y Villota (1816-1891), was one of Barcelona’s most active and influential residents, and collaborated significantly to the construction of the Tibidabo Temple, the Sant Joan de Déu and Sacred Heart Hospitals, and many other religious, educational, and public health institutions in her time. Her philanthropy earned her the honorary title “Mother of the Poor,” and in 1983, she was declared Venerable by Pope John Paul II.

Bon Bosco Ballroom
One of the highlights of the palace, originally built in 1870, is the grand staircase, which culminates in a columned gallery and stained-glass vault, the Don Bosco hall and its 500m garden-terrace. Each room in Hotel Granvia is completely unique, and fitted with 19th century furnishings and décor. Throughout its long history, the hotel has served as the setting for various films, television shows, and reports, among them Rafael Alcázar’s “The Greek Labyrinth,” an adaptation of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán’s novel of the same name, and Antoni Ribas’ “The Burned City,” set in Barcelona at the turn of the century, and starring Joan Manuel Serrat.
To celebrate its profound involvement in Barcelona’s history, Hotel Granvia invites you to dine at H1898 Restaurant, located in the historical building on the Ramblas that was once the site of the Philippines Tobacco Company, and now hosts the luxurious Hotel 1898.
The 75th Anniversary package includes:
- 2 nights at Hotel Granvia (one double room, with breakfast included)
- Complimentary bottle of wine to welcome you
- Dinner for two at H1898 Restaurant (tasting menu)

Fashion as seen by Outumuro

Hotel Granvia is one of the favourite sets of the photographer
Under the heading “Outumuro. Looks” Disseny Hub Barcelona has put on display more than 200 images by fashion photographer, Manuel Outumuro. The retrospective exhibition, which can be seen until 25 April, covers twenty years of the photographer’s career

Outumuro Looks. Fashion photography
All the top Spanish models have posed before Outumuro’s lense, such as Laura Ponte, Judit Mascó and Martina Klein, whose first photo was taken by him. “We are practically family” he said.
International models have also posed for Outumuro, including many famous figures, such as Penélope Cruz, Rossy de Palma, Alaska, Diane Kruger and Luz Casal, among many others.
Manuel Outumuro fuses the spirit of classicism with a search for elegance, an elegance which portrays femininity in its truest form. The photographer is drawn towards women’s fashion and the only job he ever rejected was taking photos of jeans. His images are timeless, though the photographer tells us that he works without looking for a particular style. “I take photos as I feel them” he says.
Outumuro’s influences are vast, from Harper’s Bazaar magazines of the forties and fifties to the world of cinema and literature.
Hotel Granvia commemorates this year its 75th anniversary. Stablished on 1935 in the former Palace of Serra-Chopitea family (built in 1870), this hotel has been part of Barcelona’s history and has seen all the majors events of the last century in the city. Its unbeatable location next to Passeig de Gràcia and Plaza Catalunya ensures the best of Barcelona to all its guests.

Lovely Christmas time at Granvía Hotel
January 19, 2010 by LEVOCI

My family and I lodged in your facility from 23 to 27 December 2009. If I spent a lovely Christmas time it was also because of the excellent standards of the Granvía Hotel. Apart from the cost-effectiveness convenience, I very much appreciated the warm welcome and the friendly approach of your staff. The Hotel has a lot of precious historical decorations, with a lovely huge living room on the first floor (where we took fantastic pictures) and internet facilities in two areas. Our two double rooms were nice and clean, with old style furniture and appliances but very cosy and functional. It is located in a strategic position, very practical for all tourists: the underground station very near, Catalunya square and the Ramblas behind the corner. Plenty of choices for breakfast, with an excellent traditional jamón! We would recommend it to both youngsters and families. It was a bit sad to leave…and we will certainly come back!
