This hotel (SOHO) is great for many reasons

We would like to tell how this hotel is fabulous and how Barcelona has a lot to offer to any tourist in the world. It was just amazing! We spent 8 nights at the SOHO Hotel in July 2010
This hotel is great for many reasons:
1. The location is great; It is a 5 minutes walk from the University and about 8 minutes from Plaza Cataluyna. It is half-way between Sagrada Familia and Cathedral of Barcelona. There is a metro station, Urgell, just in front of the hotel (or very very close).
2. The staff is wonderful and always willing to help. You could learn and practice Catalan with them for those who like languages. They are fluent in English and Spanish.
3. The room was great. It is rated a 3-stars hotel. Indeed it is a 4-stars hotel without a doubt at the price of a 3-stars.
4. We took breakfast for two mornings. The food is great and the menu is quite extensive for a breakfast.
5. We were in Barcelona when the weather was between 35 to 38 celsius for the whole week. Before going to dinner, we enjoyed the big jacuzzi (or the small swimming pool) each day. This facility is again just great.
6. After a long travel from Canada, we took the AEROBUS at 5.05 euros from the airport to the hotel. No taxi is needed. The bus goes on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, the same street of the hotel. So you just need to watch the numbers to be dropped practically in front of the hotel. SOHO hotel is located at 543-545 Gran Via.
7. The hotel and the room were very clean. The design of the room is unique. The air conditionned worked perfectly well
8. It was a special occasion as we celebrated my wife’s birthday. If you have a chance, buy tickets to see a concert or a show at the Palau Musica Catalina (metro Urquinaona). We went to see a concert of spanish/catalan guitar. The price was reasonable.
9. I would recommend to anyone a stay at the SOHO hotel with no reservation.

Great 3 days in May in Soho Hotel… Tres bonne accueil.

Hotel Soho – a great stay

We spent 5 great nights at the Hotel Soho in the middle of June 2010.
By making an early reservation, we were able to secure a rooftop room with terrace.
It’s always difficult to know what a hotel will be like especially the room chosen. We were very pleased on both counts.

Pool & Terrace - Hotel Soho
The hotel location is about 10 minutes walk from the start of the old town in one direction and a similar distance from the Placa Espanya, in the other. There are many restaurants in the vicinity. Coming from the airport, we caught the Aerobus which stops a couple of hundred metres down the street from the hotel at Urgell. These run every 10 minutes or so and the fare was only €5. – a very easy trip.
The hotel is described as minimalist, but don’t let that put you off. It has all that you could want, unless it’s carpets in the bedroom. The designer has managed to squeeze everything into a space between 2 buildings, but at no time did anything feel cramped or oppressive – all very stylish.
Our room was large with a sitting area and terrace. This was at the front of the hotel and we were initially concerned that it would be noisy from the street below, especially if we slept with the terrace door open. There is some traffic noise, but the air conditioning in the room was so unobtrusive that we could close the door and sleep in comfort. Another concern was the louvered blinds to the windows and bathroom – would these be effective? No problem at all – the blinds are between the panes of double glazing and operate at the push of a button, as does the room lighting. Mood lighting at the touch of a button – you don’t see this very often in a hotel room. In addition, there are conventional blinds on all of the windows which keep out the morning sun.

Soho Room
The room was very clean, the bedding and towels being changed every day. We only had one minor problem – the batteries in the room safe needed replacing. We reported this and it was done immediately.
The hotel has a breakfast buffet, which initially seemed minimalist too. However, there was fresh orange juice, teas, coffee, cereals, fruit, cheese, cold meats, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, breads, crousants and pastries – all you could want and all replenished as necessary.
When we make a return trip to Barcelona, we will not hesitate to stay at the Hotel Soho again.

Hotel Barcelona Universal & Hotel Soho helped us during the ash cloud

We were delayed in Barcelona for 6 extra days than we had originally planned and want to say a big thank you to the staff at the Hotel Barcelona Universal – they were wonderful – and helped us to find alternative accomodation at the Hotel Soho for four days and then welcomed us back for the final two days. They made the ordeal a lot less stressful than it might have been had we not had such good accomodation.
Please pass on our thanks to the reception staff at the Hotel Barcelona Universal, they were brilliant.
We loved the hotel and its facilities – the rooms were excellent with everything we could possibly need and the restarant staff too were first class.

The eruption of Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland on 14 April 2010 caused extensive air travel disruption. In response to fears that ash ejected by the volcano would damage aircraft engines, the controlled airspace of many countries was closed in what became the largest air traffic shut-down since World War II. This action caused millions of passengers to be stranded not only in Europe, but across the world.

Loved the Soho Hotel

We had a great stay at the SOHO.
The rooms were very spacious and well appointed. The bed was large and comfortable, excellent water pressure in the shower, and nice towels. The breakfast was great and we were so happy to have it so close by-the room itself is a great space.
It was too cold for the pool, but I loved that space also; would love to duplicate a lot of the decor!!

We stayed in the Soho Hotel from 11th to 13th Feb. 2010 and were very pleased with our stay!
The hotel is nice and clean, perfectly situated right in the city centre, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the top room with the big terrace was wonderful !
The breakfast was ok , the choice could maybe have been a little larger and it would have been nice to have some chocolates on the pillows like in other hotels… but that is the only and a very small negative point. This hotel would definitely be my first choice again the next time I come to Barcelona !
