On 18 October, the city will be hosting the 2nd Garmin Barcelona Triathlon after recovering this classic Barcelona triathlon last year, which put it back on the European Cities Triathlon Series circuit, alongside the great European triathlons like those of Stockholm and London, which attracts 13.000 participants.
The event has therefore been designed to be accessible to everyone, not just federation triathletes, so those taking part can enjoy it to the full and anyone who so wants to gets the chance to make a start in this sport.
For the moment, the second triathlon can already be seen to be a success with the significant growth in the number of participants: while in 2008 there were about 2.400 this year, even though there is still a month to go before the event takes place, some 3.000 triathletes have already signed up for it, of whom some 700 hail from outside Spain. Entries will close when the limit of 3.500 triathletes, set by the organisers in accordance with quality guidelines, has been reached.
The Garmin Barcelona Triathlon is the main competition of its kind in Spain, and one of the few that includes the Olympic sprint and super-sprint distances, which can be run individually or in relays, and which aims to be a popular and festive top-level event.
So, the cycle leg will cover the 22@ district, the Olympic Village, go past the Torre Agbar and return to the seafront. The run will pass through Ciutadella Park, the Arc de Triomf and along Barcelona’s beaches.
