Pessebre a la Plaça Sant Jaume.

Posted on 5 December 2007 in Barcelona, always!

Walking across Plaça de Sant Jaume these days, you can enjoy a very Christmas setting: the nativity scene, which, like every year, will dominate the city’s nerve centre until 7 January.

This year’s nativity scene, under the name Essència, wants us to think about the essence of Christmas and is divided into two parts, one representing the city and the other a natural landscape.

The union between the city and nature is represented by the Birth, which symbolises respect, fraternity and communities living together, in other words, what the Christmas spirit should be. The Birth is represented by Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus.

Essència, commissioned by Parks and Gardens, has been designed by gardening students of the Escola de Jardineria, at the secondary school IES M. Rubió i Tudurí, and is the result of competition held in the school.
