SANTI MOIX, from clay to sculpture.

Posted on 2 June 2008 in Barcelona, always!

Santi Moix (1960) resides and works in New York since 1986. After having spent long periods of time in India and Japan, is in Catalonia, his native country, where he creates the clay sculptures, the most simple and close material as well as the most plastic and complex. With it has modeled with vigor and haste a group of works that reproduce the landscape of his most immediate surroundings. Some remind of prints that the rain has left on the land, others represent estrange zoomorphic statues, but, the most peculiar, resemble sceneries populated by animals and plants that come up from the sandy ground of the beach. Seduced by the small, quotidian pleasures, a small number of pieces present in a most conceptual manner, snippets of the
domestic life.

This set of ceramic sculptures that are presented for the first time in Barcelona and that reflect the aesthetic complexity of the contemporary art, have been carried out under the rigorous technical advice of the ceramicist Joan Raventós (1956) in his workshop from La Bisbal d’Empord .
