Urban sketching is about taking city snapshots drawn by pencil or pen. In contrast to photography, these snapshots take some time at their designated place before they come out.
Some 200 sketchers, as enthusiasts of this art call themselves, hailing from 20 countries have met up in Barcelona for the Urban Sketching Symposium. Over here, they have been able to take part in workshops and learn new techniques out on the street, along routes organised through several of the city’s spaces. Each route is led by a different instructor, who puts the emphasis on a specific aspect of sketching. Participants have to try and follow their advice while drawing the city.
Sketching enthusiasts or those who are simply curious about this art have an opportunity to see an exhibition entitled “Sketching Barcelona” on at the City Hall’s Sala Ciutat, where each artist shows some fifteen sketches from their own personal experience in a specific neighbourhood in the city. It will be open to the public until 27 September.
