The inauguration of the “Hall of Fame“, an exhibition of photographs from Vanity Fair on Passeig de Gràcia, kicks of this year’s Barcelona Fashion Week, which features even more activities than before. Besides, Avinguda Maria Cristina has a display of work by Manuel Outumuro, an industry expert, for Marie Claire.

Several new initiatives are joining the urban fashion show, The Brandery, which opens on 27 January, the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, which this year will be in the Gothic setting of the Plaça del Rei, and the pioneering ModaFad catwalk, dedicated to up-and-coming designers.

One of the new events this year is BeCo, the first ethical fashion platform in Spain, which aims to set up and promote sustainable projects in the fashion industry. This new platform, which champions issues like workers’ rights and products used to manufacture fashion goods.

Although it won’t be taking place until 5 and 6 February, the new show Little Barcelona also forms part of Fashion Week. This new event has an international profile and will bring together 50 brands drawn from the children’s fashion industry, as well as from related areas like the decoration and furniture sectors.

The 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, from 25-28 January, will showcase the work of 25 brands and designers, including Desigual, taking part for the first time. TCN will raise the curtain on 080, for which the special guest this year is Pierre Cardin, one of contemporary fashion’s true greats.

The Brandery Catwalk, which is circular, allows visitors to see the exhibitors’ designs in movement. Custo, Replay and Superdry are just three of the 40 brands parading there.

Fangoria, The Zombie Kids, 2manydjs and Dorian concerts are set to perform at the trade fair site and tickets to their performances include entry to the fair the same afternoon.

ModaFAD: “On Wheels” Parade & Fashion Market

ModaFAD

ModaFAD

While The Brandery, an urban fashion fair designed to show off the latest trends from the big brands, is organising a competition for new talent, the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, an indie fashion platform, is letting in two big names: TCN and Mango.

Such apparent contradictions share the same spirit, that of putting Barcelona on the fashion map, publicising successful businesses and introducing up-and-coming designers.

This July at least sees these two events coinciding with the ModaFAD events and activities once again to provide a highly unique fashion week.

As for ModaFAD, which continues to be a platform for emerging fashion, the activities this year are included in the Barcelona Design Festival and, more specifically, the FADFest. This edition’s logo is “On wheels“.

The catwalk, PasaFAD, will take place at the FAD centre and on Plaça dels Àngels on 14 July, offering an opportunity to discover the design school’s up-and-coming creators.

The following day (15 July) the showroom MerkaFAD will be held at the Fira de Barcelona, at the Brandery site. There visitors will be able to buy items from the designers that took part in the parade.

The 21st Barcelona Bridal Week, which includes the Gaudí Novias CatWalk and the Noviaespaña Fair, is coming a week devoted to the bridal wear sector, taking place at Pavilion 8 within the grounds of the Gran Via de Fira de Barcelona. It will draw in even greater numbers than last year’s, with over 14.000 visitors from 50 countries.

The event will bring in representatives from almost half of the 700 businesses specialising in the sector here in Spain. 40% will be international, with businesses from the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, Lebanon, Poland, South Korea and Turkey, among others.

Barcelona Bridal Week kicks off with Gaudí CatWalk parades, from 10 to 13 May, in which 27 designers are expected to participate: Jesús del Pozo, Pronovias, Rosa Clarà, Victorio & Lucchino, Jesús Peiró, Cymbeline and Raimon Bundó.

The Noviaespaña Fair, from 13 to 15 May, will take over from the cat walk. It will offer a range of products from 240 businesses in the sector in a venue with 30.000 square metres at its disposal.

Creativity and innovation are the concepts inspiring 080 Barcelona Fashion, a platform from which to offer visibility to independent fashion designers, with the aim to become a benchmark for international avant-garde fashion and design.

With the intention to earn its own place inside the independent fashion circuit, this event aims to transform the city of Barcelona into an inescapable first rate worldwide showcase for fashion and avant-garde design. 080 Barcelona Fashion is therefore committed to back Fashion Culture as a whole, pretending to become more than just a plain Fashion Show.
