The inauguration of the “Hall of Fame“, an exhibition of photographs from Vanity Fair on Passeig de Gràcia, kicks of this year’s Barcelona Fashion Week, which features even more activities than before. Besides, Avinguda Maria Cristina has a display of work by Manuel Outumuro, an industry expert, for Marie Claire.
Several new initiatives are joining the urban fashion show, The Brandery, which opens on 27 January, the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, which this year will be in the Gothic setting of the Plaça del Rei, and the pioneering ModaFad catwalk, dedicated to up-and-coming designers.
One of the new events this year is BeCo, the first ethical fashion platform in Spain, which aims to set up and promote sustainable projects in the fashion industry. This new platform, which champions issues like workers’ rights and products used to manufacture fashion goods.
Although it won’t be taking place until 5 and 6 February, the new show Little Barcelona also forms part of Fashion Week. This new event has an international profile and will bring together 50 brands drawn from the children’s fashion industry, as well as from related areas like the decoration and furniture sectors.
The 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, from 25-28 January, will showcase the work of 25 brands and designers, including Desigual, taking part for the first time. TCN will raise the curtain on 080, for which the special guest this year is Pierre Cardin, one of contemporary fashion’s true greats.
The Brandery Catwalk, which is circular, allows visitors to see the exhibitors’ designs in movement. Custo, Replay and Superdry are just three of the 40 brands parading there.
Fangoria, The Zombie Kids, 2manydjs and Dorian concerts are set to perform at the trade fair site and tickets to their performances include entry to the fair the same afternoon.

For a few days, Port Vell will become a scale version of Argentina, offering visitors a tour through the country’s main attractions in terms of culture, gastronomy, fashion, commerce, sport and tourism.
This is the aim behind the “Argentina to Barcelona” fair running from 2 to 11 September as part of events leading up to Catalonia National Day, bringing a Latin flavour to the heart of the city.
The flavours of Argentina will be your signposts along the route, with no shortage of the famous alfajores, the delicious dulce de leche, a good hearty asado and the very best range of mates to try. Also on display at Port Vell will be a selection of works by the best Argentine creators in leather and hide, as well as crafts and jewellery.
Another of the fair’s main events during opening hours, which run from 11:00 to 23:00, are the live performances. Every day, at 12:00, 18:00 and 20:00, visitors will be entertained by a set of traditional Argentine dances in various styles and from a range of periods.
Are you tempted to fly away to Argentina?
And if you’re thinking of travelling to Argentina, you’ll also find tourism packages and all kinds of information about tours, cities and the countryside that you can’t afford to miss.

ModaFAD
While The Brandery, an urban fashion fair designed to show off the latest trends from the big brands, is organising a competition for new talent, the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, an indie fashion platform, is letting in two big names: TCN and Mango.
Such apparent contradictions share the same spirit, that of putting Barcelona on the fashion map, publicising successful businesses and introducing up-and-coming designers.
This July at least sees these two events coinciding with the ModaFAD events and activities once again to provide a highly unique fashion week.
As for ModaFAD, which continues to be a platform for emerging fashion, the activities this year are included in the Barcelona Design Festival and, more specifically, the FADFest. This edition’s logo is “On wheels“.
The catwalk, PasaFAD, will take place at the FAD centre and on Plaça dels Àngels on 14 July, offering an opportunity to discover the design school’s up-and-coming creators.
The following day (15 July) the showroom MerkaFAD will be held at the Fira de Barcelona, at the Brandery site. There visitors will be able to buy items from the designers that took part in the parade.

Barcelona: Fashion showcase
The city’s main fashion events coincide once again. The Brandery fashion show, which takes place from 13 to 15 July, features an area open to the general public among its new features. The 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, from 12 to 15 July, is being held at historical site of the Barcelona University, while the ModaFad parade and market will be on from 14 to 15 July.
While The Brandery, an urban fashion fair designed to show off the latest trends from the big brands, is organising a competition for new talent, the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk, an indie fashion platform, is letting in big names.
The Brandery is the new hotspot of urban fashion, a hub of trends, design, music, creativity and business. Exhibitions, catwalk shows, live music… all under the same roof which, for the first time this year, will have a new sector open to the general public: The Brandtown Fashion Xperience, which will coexist with the traditional The Brandery trade show.Such apparent contradictions share the same spirit, that of putting Barcelona on the fashion map, publicising successful businesses and introducing up-and-coming designers.
Creativity and innovation are the concepts that inspire 080 Barcelona Fashion, an initiative driven by the Catalan Government, as an open, plural multidisciplinary, international fashion platform.
This July at least sees these two events coinciding with the ModaFad events and activities once again to provide a highly unique fashion week. And B-Hotel features Fitting Room, an event where design, fashion and arts come together.
The ModaFAD activity consists of the international showing of emerging fashion designers to boost the interdisciplinary, drive the concept of the designer and promoted, and encourage the relationship between the design schools, the young designers, the specialized modes of communication, and the industry.

Fashion as seen by Outumuro

Hotel Granvia is one of the favourite sets of the photographer
Under the heading “Outumuro. Looks” Disseny Hub Barcelona has put on display more than 200 images by fashion photographer, Manuel Outumuro. The retrospective exhibition, which can be seen until 25 April, covers twenty years of the photographer’s career

Outumuro Looks. Fashion photography
All the top Spanish models have posed before Outumuro’s lense, such as Laura Ponte, Judit Mascó and Martina Klein, whose first photo was taken by him. “We are practically family” he said.
International models have also posed for Outumuro, including many famous figures, such as Penélope Cruz, Rossy de Palma, Alaska, Diane Kruger and Luz Casal, among many others.
Manuel Outumuro fuses the spirit of classicism with a search for elegance, an elegance which portrays femininity in its truest form. The photographer is drawn towards women’s fashion and the only job he ever rejected was taking photos of jeans. His images are timeless, though the photographer tells us that he works without looking for a particular style. “I take photos as I feel them” he says.
Outumuro’s influences are vast, from Harper’s Bazaar magazines of the forties and fifties to the world of cinema and literature.
Hotel Granvia commemorates this year its 75th anniversary. Stablished on 1935 in the former Palace of Serra-Chopitea family (built in 1870), this hotel has been part of Barcelona’s history and has seen all the majors events of the last century in the city. Its unbeatable location next to Passeig de Gràcia and Plaza Catalunya ensures the best of Barcelona to all its guests.
