the hotel is an island of calm in a bustling city. Rooms are quiet and tastefully furnished. The location provided easy walking access to both the Gothic Quarter via the Ramblas and the splendid Gaudi buildings.
The service both reception and at breakfast was efficiently delivered.

50th anniversary of the debut of Montserrat Caballe at Gran Teatre del Liceu

Concert commemorating
Montserrat Caballé made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and in Spain on Monday 7 January 1962, in Richard Strauss’ Arabella.
This concert celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Liceu debut of the great soprano from Barcelona. Her emotional and professional relationship with the theatre was soon consolidated by her performances as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly. These were the first steps in a long and close partnership that has included many of her most seminal interpretations: Norma, Roberto Devereux, Maria Stuarda, Lucrezia Borgia, Il Pirata, Aida, Un ballo in maschera, I vespri sicilianni, and others. The Liceu awarded her its Gold Medal in 1966 and now rounds off this sincere tribute with an exhibition in the Foyer recalling the most significant and memorable events in an exceptional joint biography.
Hotel 1898, located in Las Ramblas, is the nearest hotel to Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Hotel Granvia review: I would recommend this hotel
November 7, 2011 by Doris

We stayed at the Hotel Granvia for 4 nights and were very happy with everything about the hotel. It appears to be a smaller hotel than the others that have been commented on. It is located near Plaza Catalunya and the metro at Paseo de Gracia, making it ideal for getting anywhere easily. The room was comfortable and clean. The best thing about the hotel was the friendliness of the staff, particularly Carlos. Because of construction next door, there was loud hammering all day, through no fault of the hotel. When we asked for a change of room, they were very accommodating, moving us to a room on the other side of the hotel where it was much quieter. There was no street noise in our room, even though the Gran Via was in front. We walked to Las Ramblas, the Palau de Musica de Catalana, and Gaudi’s Casa Mila. The metro was very easy to use and fast. The breakfast was very good, with just about everything you could ask for. We had the romatic package for 2 nights, including a bottle of wine and a nice dinner. The dinner was in Hotel 1898 on Las Ramblas, and it was delightful. I would recommend this hotel.

Wonderful stay at H1898

We read great reviews of H1898 on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a go. 6 of us booked in for a leisurely weekend and were not disappointed. Everything was tip top. The rooms were great; the beds and pillows tremendous. The location on the Ramblas was perfect and the rooftop bar and pool were just perfect, especially with a Mojito in one hand. Everything we hoped for was realised. I loom forward to many more stays at this truly lovely hotel in my favourite city.

Things we loved at U232 Hotel
October 14, 2011 by Yan

We stayed at Hotel U232 for 3 nights during the first week of September. We chose this hotel because the rates were reasonable and we had arrived by train from Madrid and this hotel is located one easy and short metro ride from the Barcelona Sants Railway Station. As most reviewers have mentioned, the hotel is a little bit outside the heart of the city and it’s a bit of a pain to switch trains plus a hike through some really long corridors at the Diagonal Metro Station to get to La Rambla. But we found the benefits of staying at this hotel far outweighed the cons.
For us, we thought the biggest benefit (besides the proximity to the Sants train station) was the dining options in the area. Our best meals in Barcelona were all at restaurants within walking distance from this hotel, and prices around here were very reasonable compared to the tourist-driven restaurants in the city centre. We particularly loved Maitea Taberna and their wide variety of delicious tapas. Maitea Taberna is located about 2.5 blocks away from the hotel on Carrer de Casanova. The staff at the restaurant was very friendly and patient as we were trying to figure out the whole process. We loved the food there so much that we went back a second time. Another terrific restaurant was Gusto, located 1.5 blocks away and right across the street from the metro station.
U232 Top Room with terrace in Barcelona
I would come back to this hotel just to eat at those establishments again! Other things we loved about the hotel:
- Very quiet, spacious and comfortable rooms for reasonable rates. We stayed on the second floor and had a balcony. Albeit the balcony was right smack dab in the middle of a coutyard in the middle of a network of apartments. But it was nice to step outside on a warm night with a drink and look inside the well-lit apartments all around us!
- Free wi-fi plus there are two desktops and one printer for public use. Very handy as we didn’t bring our laptop with us.
- Room was equipped with a safe and fridge, which I think should be essentials in every hotel room.
- Besides the restaurants I mentioned above, there were also plenty of places where you can grab breakfast, or a quick bite.
- There are a couple of Suma supermarkets and they are both within 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel. Great place to buy snacks and drinks to stock the fridge.
- Even though you need to switch metro trains to get to La Rambla, there are some places that are easily accessible from this hotel, such as Sagrada Familia and the Sants Railway Station.
- Well staffed. Everytime we dealt with the front desk (checking in, checking out, storing luugage, questions), somebody was alway available to help us.
Room Tip: The rooms at the back at the hotel were very quiet. Didn’t hear any traffic during our entire stay.

Hotel Paral·lel: ottima posizione a Barcellona

Camera dell'Hotel Paral·lel a Barcellona
Le habitazioni sono grandi, accoglienti e moderne, il bagno è ottimo, il tutto con una pulizia eccellente ed il personale valido e disponibile. Vorrei consigliarlo a chi cerca il meglio senza buttare i soldi…

Hotel Jazz: Great rooms, great pool, great price

This is our second time spending a week in Barcelona at the Hotel Jazz. For the price it’s unbeatable. Comfortable rooms with contemporary Spanish design. Great rooftop pool – not huge, but not a puddle like at some other design hotels like Cram. The rooftop pool has enough comfortable loungers, enough nice fluffy towels, and a nice little bar.

Hotel Jazz Rooftop deck
Very helpful and friendly desk staff. Great central location right in between the main square (Plaza de Catalunya, direct bus to airport, Corte Ingles department store) and the Eixample/Gracia shopping, restaurant and nightlife area.

The Hotel Barcelona Universal is about a 6 minute walk to the Rambles

We selected this hotel based on the location and the reviews, and having stayed there
I must say it was our best stay of our entire trip.
We arrived early morning and as our suite was not ready we sat in the hotel lobby. My daughter had caught the stomach bug on the plane and had fever. The management was kind enough to give us a temporary room so that she could rest. What a nice gesture, would never forget this.
The hotel is very clean, our suite on the 9th floor was out of this world, the sheer space, comfy beds, safe and cleanliness was superb.
The staff and management of the hotel are very friendly, providing guidance, maps, directions and suggestions e.g. they told us to get the T10 which was more economical.
The location is key, the hotel is about a 6 minute walk to the Rambles, all the streets are safe. We used to walk back to our hotel at 1 am with no concerns.
We started our day of with a wonderful warm buffet breakfast , wonderful coffee at the hotel, this gave us a great start to our day.
I would definitely rate this hotel as a 5 star, and would definitely stay here again.

Pre-cruise stay at Hotel Jazz in Barcelona

We stayed at Hotel Jazz pre-cruise for several days in April. We could not be more pleased!
The rooms were classy, clean and bed and pillows were comfortable. The staff could not be more helpful and were always willing to call us a taxi or make reservations for us.

Hotel Jazz in Barcelona. Breakfast room
The breakfast for 10 euro was well worth it as was the free computer service near the bar on the 2nd floor. It is always nice to check e- mail and print boarding passes without a charge. The complimentary toiletries, a blow dryer as well as a secure safe were nice additions to the room. The hotel is conveniently located to the metro (1 Block) restaurants as well La Rambla and Plaza Catalunya were all within a five minute walk. Great experience, wonderful hotel.
