2nd Lluís Companys race - run & walk

2nd Lluís Companys race
In a tribute to the People’s Olympics that were due to be held in Barcelona in 1936, today Saturday 3 October, will see the 2nd Lluís Companys’ run and walk, which is open to everyone.
The aim is to regain the spirit of fraternity, good sportsmanship and solidarity those games originally intended while commemorating and reclaiming a sporting event linked to the city and imbued with the values of democracy and solidarity.
The walk is planned to start at 9.30 am and the run half an hour later at 10 am. The route starts opposite INFEC (the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia) on Avinguda de l’Estadi, and goes round the Olympic Ring.
The People’s Olympics were the democratic government’s answer to the Berlin Olympic Games of that same year, now 70 years ago, with their marked xenophobic and racist character. They were held under Hitler’s Nazi regime, with the aim of demonstrating the sporting superiority of the Aryan race.
However, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War cut short these games, which were due to open on 19 July, 1936, the day after Franco’s military uprising.

Cool hotel & very convenient location: B-Hotel

We stayed at the B-Hotel from 1 to 5 August.
Cool hotel from the pool on the roof to the Breakfast room on the 1st floor with fantastic views over Plaza Espanya.
The rooms are really well laid out, the decor is funky in a minimalist way, the breakfast was excellent and the location is very convenient - close to the city centre, transport connections and to Montjuic.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Already, we are recommending it to friends as the place to stay in the best city in Europe.

B-Hotel: a relaxed 5* experience

We stayed in the B-Hotel from the 7th to 9th August - couldn’t fault anything about this hotel. The first impression was excellent & staff were simply superb - their help & suggestions ensured that we experienced the real Barcelona (instead of the usual ready made tourist areas).
The location of the hotel was excellent - close to the tour bus stop, aerobus stop and fantastic sights including the Palace, fountains & Bull Ring (was also close enough - but far enough away from the Ramblas - if you know what I mean!).
The facilities, including the impressive pool (& view!) was a delight - nice way to relax after travelling around Barcelona. Everything about our stay was perfect (apart from the fact that Barcelona were playing in USA) - we will be back at some stage and will certainly be back to the B-Hotel!
Easily a relaxed 5* experience!

Hotel Barcelona Universal review

Had five days at the Barcelona Universal in early July 2009. On arrival we asked for a quiet room and they obliged. The staff were very friendly. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel was central for the Ramblas and harbour area and was very close to the Metro. We would definately use it again. There were plenty of cafes across the road for breakfast. Try the Dino pan. For evening meals try the Bella La Napoli on Margarit and La Bodegueta on Carre De Blai very close by in Poble Sec.

Summer nights in Barcelona

Montjuïc Magic Fountain
A Midsummer Night’s Dream could be title of this post, but William Shakespeare has already used it, so we won’t paraphrase.
There are many things to do and visit in Barcelona during the day. Gaudí buildings, La Rambla, 5km of beaches, the new architecture at Diagonal Mar and Forum, Camp Nou and the FCBarcelona museum,…
But what happens when the Sun is down? Don’t let the Moon fool you: Barcelona still has many things to offer !
Cinemar
Can you imagine being able to enjoy the best films ever on board ship? Well, once again, Barcelona harbour is offering you the chance. With “Cinemar” you can recall the first pictures produced by the seventh art, as well as the comic gems of silent cinema, while enjoying the Barcelona coastline.
Cinema at Sala Montjuïc
Sala Montjuïc is the name used to identify the dry moat of Montjuïc Castle during summer nights. Outdoors cinema on a fantastic location with Barcelona as background.
Montjuïc Magic Fountain
Probably the best-known show of Barcelona nights. A combination of music, light and water.
Urban nights by the City History Museum
From a visit to a Civil War air-raid shelter to a night of poetic astronomy. These are two of a dozen ideas on the museum nights.
