The Barcelona Grec Festival 2010 dedicated to Japan

In its 34th edition, the 2010 Barcelona Grec Festival continues to opt for innovative, quality, newly created and varied shows. This year the Grec will be opting for the Japanese performing arts, with fifteen productions from Japan. The production, entitled Panorama Japó will enable audiences to enjoy a son et lumière show directed by Rioji Ikeda, in collaboration with the Sonar, and see Joan Ollé’s take on the non-modern theatre of Yukio Mishima.

Mention should also be made of “Ki“, an initiative from Cesc Gelabert and Frederic Amat (who is in charge of the programme for the 2010 Grec) to mark the centenary of Yamaga city’s Kabuki theatre, featuring a Japanese Butoh performer and a contemporary dancer.

Of the 65 shows making up the festival’s programme, it will fall to Prometeu to open the event, starring Carme Elias, though the amphitheatre will also be the setting for a mixture of music and poetry with Bolívar, fragmentos de un sueño, Chouf Ouchouf’s circus show and several dance and music performances.

As every year, the Grec, being held from 13 June to 1 August at 29 venues located throughout the city, seeks to find a balance between foreign and local offerings and among the various art forms: theatre, dance and music.

The national scene will be represented by Sergi Belbel, Julio Manrique, Oriol Broggi, Joan Manuel Serrat, Jordi Savall, T de Teatre and La Caldera.

The big international names attending the festival will include Corinne Bailey Rae, Bijan Sheibani, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Aydin Tejer and Omar Porras and William Ospina.

Roxy Music at Sonar Barcelona

British band Roxy Music will be performing at the next Sonar, thirty years after they last played in the city. Other groups joining the line-up are New Young Pony Club, Cabo San Roque and Aufgang. Find your hotel in Barcelona.
 

Dance pioneers with the song “Angel Eyes”, they made synthesisers fashionable, were the precursors of punk and new wave and the standard-bearers of glamour on stage. Roxy Music is a band ahead of their time, which is why they are going to play at Sonar.

Sonar, the advanced music and multimedia art festival, takes place in Barcelona every year during three days in June. Sonar’s diverse artistic offer splits between the Sonar by Day activities and Sonar by Night, together with some simultaneous gigs like the performances at L’Auditori.

Together with Roxy Music, Sonar 2010 will also feature The Chemical Brothers, Delorean or The Pinker Tones among others.

Sonar Barcelona & Sonar Kids

 Sonar is a music and digital art festival held in the heart of the city of Barcelona for three days every June. At last year’s festival, more than 80 thousand people enjoyed a musical line-up that combined major names in today’s electronica with ideas for minority interests.

The event will include renowned Spanish and international artists who will adapt their styles to their younger audience, with numerous activities to awaken and stimulate their creativity. SonarKids is designed for children to learn by enjoying music and art in a way that they probably haven’t done yet. Sonar has taken its young audience into account, and will be using a sound system suitable for children’s hearing, as well as installing a range of facilities (play area, picnic area, bar) so that both parents and children can rest and enjoy the SonarKids experience in full comfort.
