Mid Beach Season in Barcelona!

With ‘mid beach season‘ now upon us, most of the seasonal services have now been launched: showers, beach refreshment stands and outdoor lavatories will all be opened to the public.

Over all the weekends in April, the Easter holidays, and from 1 to 29 May, various Red Cross and Guàrdia Urbana [city police] rescue and first-aid services will be activated, along with environmental information services.

Cleaning measures have also been launched, with daily operations and an expected doubling of the number of waste bins.

Security measures include both uniformed and civilian police beach patrols on foot, and various beach-based prevention and response units for muggings, robberies and hawking on the beach.

What’s more, there will be extra patrols from district and specialist units such as: the Administrative and Security Police Unit (UPAS), the Day-Time Support Unit (USD), the Mounted Unit (UM), the Centralised Night-Time Unit (UNOC) and the Traffic Unit (UC).

The Barcelona Beaches website will be providing real-time information over the Easter holidays on sea conditions, flags, temperatures and sunshine (UV index) for each of the beaches. This year the city’s beaches will offer city residents 14 free WiFi hotspots, in addition to the 411 hotspots spread through out the city.

All Saints Day: chesnuts & panellets

All Saints is a time to remember those no longer with us, but it also marks the start of a new cycle in Nature, with trees losing their leaves and fields bare after the harvest of summer.

It is a time to celebrate with the popular tradition of eating chestnuts and panellets, the marzipan cakes (sweet potatoes) typical of Catalonia. In Barcelona there are castanyades, chestnuts for the general public, as well as stands on the streets selling them. The classic panellets are with pine nut, almond, potato, sugar, egg and lemon peel. But others contain strawberry, coconut, more lemon, green tea, coffee, and anything else imaginable.

B-Hotel: a relaxed 5* experience

We stayed in the B-Hotel from the 7th to 9th August – couldn’t fault anything about this hotel.  The first impression was excellent & staff were simply superb – their help & suggestions ensured that we experienced the real Barcelona (instead of the usual ready made tourist areas).

The location of the hotel was excellent – close to the tour bus stop, aerobus stop and fantastic sights including the Palace, fountains & Bull Ring (was also close enough – but far enough away from the Ramblas – if you know what I mean!).

The facilities, including the impressive pool (& view!) was a delight – nice way to relax after travelling around Barcelona. Everything about our stay was perfect (apart from the fact that Barcelona were playing in USA) – we will be back at some stage and will certainly be back to the B-Hotel!

Easily a relaxed 5* experience!
