It will be the third time that Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi will host the Euroleague Final Four. In 1998, Kinder Bologna lifted its first Euroleague trophy by downing AEK Athens 58-44 in the title game behind 14 points from Antoine Rigaudeau. In 2003, FC Barcelona seized the Euroleague crown at home with a 76-65 victory over Benetton Treviso. Barcelona also hosted the 1969 European Cup final.

The Bicia’t will be taking place on 12 May, giving the Catalan Cycling Club (BACC) an occasion to host a breakfast for people who cycle to work and turn up between 7.30 am and 10.30 am at the points located in Rambla de Catalunya-Diagonal, Diagonal-Provença, Zona Universitària, Lepant and Arc de Triomf.

Let’s not forget the Bike Show and the Bicycle and Skate Festival, organised by the Barcelona Sports Institute, at the Fòrum on 15 and 16 respectively. In addition to the usual activities, this year’s Bicycle Week also includes a refresher course on basic bike mechanics.

Another notable activity involves free loans of bicycles to encourage more people to get out on their bikes and realise they can cycle through the city. New York - Barcelona Transoceanic Sailing Record

Last Thursday 8 April, participants in the New York - Barcelona Transoceanic Sailing Record set off from Ambrose Light in Hudson Bay (New York), on a new ocean sailing challenge. This record will be recognised by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC), an international body acting under the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), which regulates sailing speed records throughout the world.

For the first time in history an attempt is being made to establish a sailing record between an Atlantic  and a Mediterranean city. Until now records transatlantic records have been set between geographical points rather than cities.

Now, though, the two vessels taking part, Spain’s Imoca Open 60, owned by Estrella Damm and manned by Alex Pella and Pepe Ribas, together with the North American Stan Schreyer, and W Hotels, with Spaniards Pachi Rivero and Toño Piris, accompanied by North American Peter Becker, are trying to cover the distance between New York and Barcelona.

That means they have to sail a total of 3.900 nautical miles, or 7.226 km, in as short a time as possible. That could be between 18 and 22 days.

The crossing will end in Barcelona harbour between 25 and 30 April, approximately, depending on weather conditions.
