The Barcelona Blues Festival (until 21 July), the only major festival dedicated to the genre in the city, is back in town to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Park Central de Nou Barris and various other venues, bringing with it the free concerts and master classes.
From the small-scale events on offer when the it first started out, the festival has moved onto a fully fledged programme at the Park Central de Nou Barris, as well as at various other locations and venues around the city.
Some of the highlights at this year’s festival, which continues to be free and enjoys the collaboration of the City Council, will be the performances of Rocky Lawrence and Big Joe & His Blues Kings, plus concerts from Big Mama & The Crazy Blues Band and the Barcelona Big Blues Band, the latter including a sax battle between Dani Nel·lo and Big Dani Pérez.
Six de Chino & The Big Bet will be performing at Luz de Gas, while the Casal de Barri in the Prosperitat neighbourhood will be hosting a gigs by Cotton Roots and The Big 3, plus a jam session.
The master classes, led by Ivan Kovacevic on double bass and Dani Nel·lo on sax, will take place at Nou Barris’ Antaviana School.
