Barcelona will be the setting for the official start to the RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada, the 2012 Rally de España, which will take place between 8 and 11 November.
On 8 November, Avinguda de la Catedral will be the centre of all the events, the pick of which will be the drive round the city centre. It will be the first time Barcelona stages a race that counts towards the World Rally Championship (WRC)
The official starting ceremony for the final event in the FIA World Rally Championship will allow drivers taking part, who include the eight-times world champions Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, to do a tour of the city centre.
Although the official start is in Barcelona, the competitive side of the rally is concentrated on Tarragona’s Costa Daurada, where the timed stages will take place. And in a new departure, this year Salou, as well as holding the qualifying event, will also have a seafront route along the Passeig Marítim. The race, the forty-eighth this year, will end on 11 November in the Costa Daurada capital.
The collaboration agreement between the RACC and the City Council is a new demonstration of its commitment to promoting the city on an international level through sports events, like the X Games and the World Swimming Championships in 2013.
