The Spanish F1 Grand Prix kicks off

Posted on 11 May 2007 in Barcelona, always!

The 51st Formula One Gran Premio de España Telefónica has kicked off this Thursday with the popular pitlane walkabout at the Circuit de Catalunya. This exclusive experience for three day Grandstand and General Admission pass holders only will allow fans to take a close look to the teams’ garages and single-seaters as they are getting ready for the Grand Prix. There will be two opportunities, first in the morning, from 10 to 12 noon, and later on from 16 to 19 hours. Over 32,000 motor sports fans enjoyed this privilege last year.
The Circuit de Catalunya facilities are ready to welcome the 140,000 spectators that will fill the circuit on Sunday 13th. Two new grandstands will top up the existing ones, totalling 17 overall. Seats on grandstands B and H (Stadium area), as well as J, K and E (at the end of the home straight) have been renovated. These grandstands account for 17,584 seats.

To make the stay in the grandstands and the general admission area more comfortable during the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, Walt Disney’s Cars film will be featured on the 26 giant screens scattered around the circuit. Lightning McQueen, Sally Carrera, Doc Hudson and Ramone will entertain early birds on Sunday. The film will be screened at 7.30 am on Sunday.
The special program will include the screening of several 2006 F1 Highlights.

Besides, the Circuit de Catalunya offers free breakfast to the first 30,000 fans arriving at the track on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a souvenir T-shirt of the event.
In fact, the Circuit de Catalunya consolidated its position as the F1 reference circuit in 2006, becoming the worldwide leader in terms of spectators. Only the Circuit of Suzuka outdid the Catalan facility in numbers of fans on a Sunday, the day the Japanese track bowed out of the crème de la crème of the car-racing world. But Catalunya is clearly ahead of the other European race-tracks.
